A $0.20 listing fee per unit sold, a 6.5% transaction fee on the full order, and 3% plus $0.25 processing -- stacked on every sale. Owelet tracks all three automatically.

Etsy's fee structure is the most layered of any platform Owelet connects to. Three fees hit every single sale without exception and none of them are optional. A $0.20 listing fee per unit sold. A 6.5% transaction fee on the full order total including any shipping charged. And a 3% plus $0.25 payment processing fee. On a $20 digital product, that is $0.20 plus $1.30 plus $0.85 -- $2.35 in total fees before Offsite Ads. The effective rate on a $20 item is 11.75%.
The listing fee deserves special attention because it is per unit sold, not per listing created. If you create one listing for a digital download template and sell 200 copies, you pay $40 in listing fees alone (200 x $0.20) before any percentage fees run. This is not obvious from Etsy's fee page, which describes it as a $0.20 listing fee. At high volume, the per-unit listing fee becomes a meaningful cost that scales linearly with your sales count.
The $0.20 listing fee also renews every 4 months whether or not the item sells. If you have 50 active listings, that is $10 every 4 months ($30/year) just to keep your shop open. For digital product sellers with large catalogs, the renewal cost adds up even during slow periods.
The Offsite Ads layer is where Etsy's fee structure goes from layered to aggressive. Etsy runs your listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. When a buyer clicks through one of these ads and purchases within 30 days, Etsy charges a 15% Offsite Ads fee on the order total. For shops under $10,000 in annual sales, you can opt out. For shops above $10,000, the 15% Offsite Ads fee becomes mandatory and permanent -- even if your sales later drop back below the threshold.
On a $20 Offsite Ads sale, the full fee stack is: $0.20 listing plus $1.30 transaction (6.5%) plus $0.85 processing (3% + $0.25) plus $3.00 Offsite Ads (15%) = $5.35. Effective rate: 26.75%. More than a quarter of the sale goes to fees. And once you cross the $10,000 annual threshold, you cannot opt out. Every ad-attributed sale for the life of your shop carries this rate.
When we built Owelet's Etsy integration, we structured it to handle all three mandatory fee layers plus the conditional Offsite Ads layer separately. Your dashboard shows your organic effective rate versus your Offsite Ads effective rate and how your mix between the two affects your real monthly net. If 30% of your sales come through Offsite Ads, your blended effective rate is roughly 16.3% -- significantly higher than the 11.75% you see on organic sales alone.
Etsy also charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee for sellers listing in a different currency from their payment account. If you are a US seller with international buyers paying in their local currency, this conversion fee applies on top of everything else. For sellers with significant international traffic, this adds yet another fee layer that compounds the already-stacked structure.
For digital product sellers using Etsy alongside Gumroad, Stripe, or other platforms, the fee comparison is stark. Etsy's base rate of 11.75% before Offsite Ads is higher than Lemon Squeezy (7% at $20 average), similar to Gumroad direct (16.1% at $25 average), and significantly higher than Stripe alone (3.5% at $50 average). Owelet shows all these rates normalized per transaction so you can make informed decisions about where to focus your catalog.
A $30 digital print, organic sale: $0.20 listing + $1.95 transaction + $1.15 processing = $3.30 in fees. You keep $26.70 -- effective rate 11%. The same $30 sale via Offsite Ads: $3.30 + $4.50 Offsite Ads = $7.80 in fees. You keep $22.20 -- effective rate 26%. Owelet tracks your Offsite Ads mix rate so you see your real blended effective rate.
