Owelet connects to Gumroad and shows your real net income per sale -- after the platform fee, the processing charge, and the Discover premium you didn't know you were paying.

Gumroad advertises a 10% fee. That is the direct sale rate -- the one that applies when a customer comes through your own link, your email list, or your social media post. When someone finds you through Gumroad Discover, Gumroad's built-in marketplace and recommendation engine, the fee jumps to 30%. Same product. Same customer price. Three times the cut. Gumroad positions Discover as free marketing exposure for your products. What they do not make obvious is the cost of that exposure. And Gumroad's dashboard shows one combined gross revenue number without telling you which sales came from which channel.
When we built Owelet's Gumroad integration, we discovered that the Discover vs direct split is completely invisible in Gumroad's own UI. There is no report, no filter, no column that tells you what percentage of your sales came through Discover versus through your own marketing. Sellers have no way to know their real effective rate without pulling raw transaction data through the API and tagging each sale by source. The difference between a 10% effective rate and a blended 18% rate is the difference between a sustainable business and one that looks profitable until you check your bank balance.
Owelet pulls every Gumroad transaction and surfaces your actual blended rate across both channels. If 30% of your sales come through Discover, your effective platform fee is not 10%. It is 16%. On $5,000 in monthly revenue, that is the difference between $500 in platform fees and $800. The extra $300 per month does not appear anywhere in Gumroad's analytics. Owelet shows it because we pull the source data that Gumroad does not display.
Then there is the $0.50 flat fee per transaction. On a $50 product, half a dollar barely registers. On a $5 digital template or a $3 preset pack, it compounds fast. A $5 direct sale: $0.50 platform fee (10%) plus the $0.50 flat fee plus $0.15 processing (2.9% of $5) plus $0.30 processing flat. Total fees: $1.45. You keep $3.55. The effective rate on a $5 product is 29%. The $0.50 flat fee alone represents 10% of the entire purchase price. If you sell a high volume of low-priced digital products, the flat fee is your biggest cost -- not the percentage.
Gumroad also keeps its platform fee on refunds. If a customer buys your $50 product and then requests a refund, Gumroad returns the customer's money but retains the $5.00 platform fee and the $0.50 flat fee. You lose the sale and $5.50 of your own money. Teachable, by comparison, refunds their platform fee when customers get refunds. This is how Gumroad's refund system works, and it compounds if your product category has a refund rate above 2-3%.
The full fee stack on every Gumroad direct sale is four separate charges. The 10% platform fee. A $0.50 flat fee per transaction. Payment processing (Stripe runs underneath). And a $0.30 flat processing fee. On a $50 product, the platform takes $5.00 plus $0.50, processing takes $1.45 (2.9% of $50) plus $0.30, and you keep $42.75. But that only applies to direct sales. Mix in Discover traffic at the 30% rate and your real number is lower. Gumroad does not show you how much lower.
If your customers are international, there is another layer. The 2.9% Stripe processing fee is the domestic rate. International cards carry an additional 1% cross-border fee per transaction. For sellers with a global audience -- and most digital product sellers have 30-40% or more international buyers -- this adds cost that never appears as a line item in Gumroad's dashboard. It shows up only as a slightly smaller payout than you expected, with no explanation. Over a year of international sales, the cumulative gap between expected revenue and actual payouts can be significant.
Selling on Gumroad alongside other platforms makes the visibility gap worse. Each platform reports revenue differently, uses different fee structures, and surfaces a different version of your finances. Gumroad shows gross in one format. Stripe shows net in another. Lemon Squeezy bundles tax handling into its number. Without a normalized view that standardizes all of it, you are managing your business from three dashboards with three definitions of what you earned. One accurate combined number would change how you make every pricing and platform decision.
Owelet pulls your Gumroad data through the API, tags each transaction by channel, calculates the actual fee breakdown, and shows your true net per sale. You see your direct rate versus your Discover rate, your blended effective rate across all sales, and how your fee exposure shifts month over month as your traffic mix changes. The goal is not to replace Gumroad's dashboard. It is to show you the number Gumroad's dashboard does not.
A $50 direct sale: $5.00 platform fee + $0.50 flat + $1.45 processing (2.9%) + $0.30 flat = $7.25 in fees. You keep $42.75. The same $50 sale through Discover: $15.00 flat. You keep $35.00. Owelet shows you both figures and your Discover mix rate.
