Ko-fi Payout Schedule: PayPal vs Stripe, and Why They're Completely Different
Quick answer
Ko-fi has no payout schedule of its own. It passes payments straight through to whichever processor you connected. With PayPal, money arrives instantly, no waiting. With Stripe, your first payout takes about 7 days, then settles into a rolling 2, 4, or 7-day schedule you control in your Stripe Dashboard, or Instant Payouts for an extra fee.
Most "when does Ko-fi pay" questions assume Ko-fi is holding the money somewhere and releasing it on a schedule. It isn't. Ko-fi is a pass-through. The actual timing depends entirely on whether you're connected through PayPal or Stripe, and those two are not close to the same speed.
Why Doesn't Ko-fi Have Its Own Payout Schedule?
Because Ko-fi doesn't hold your balance the way Patreon or Gumroad do. When a supporter pays you on Ko-fi, the payment routes directly to your connected PayPal or Stripe account. Ko-fi is the interface; the processor is what actually moves money. That's why the honest answer to "how often does Ko-fi pay out" is "it depends which processor you picked," not a single number.
How Fast Is Ko-fi With PayPal?
Instant, with no payout schedule at all. Money goes straight into your PayPal balance the moment a payment clears, the same way it would if someone sent you a PayPal payment directly. There's no minimum threshold to hit, no waiting period, and no dashboard setting to configure. It's simply there.
The tradeoff is that PayPal isn't available or practical in every situation (some countries have limited Ko-fi/PayPal support, and PayPal's own transfer times to your bank still apply once the money's in your PayPal balance and you choose to withdraw it further).
How Fast Is Ko-fi With Stripe?
Meaningfully slower, especially at first. Your very first payout after connecting Stripe takes about 7 days while Stripe verifies your account. This is a standard Stripe security measure, not a Ko-fi delay. After that initial period, payouts settle into a rolling schedule you set yourself inside your Stripe Dashboard (not inside Ko-fi's settings): every 2 days, every 4 days, or every 7 days.
If you want Stripe money faster than your chosen rolling schedule, Stripe's own Instant Payouts feature can get funds into your bank within about 30 minutes, any day including weekends, for an additional fee Stripe charges per payout.
Does Ko-fi Set a Minimum Payout Amount?
No. Because Ko-fi doesn't hold a balance, it has nothing to set a minimum against. Whatever minimum balance rules exist come entirely from PayPal or Stripe's own account policies, which are the same rules that would apply to any payment moving through those processors regardless of Ko-fi.
Which Processor Should You Use for Faster Money?
If getting paid immediately matters more than anything else, PayPal is the clear choice. There's no schedule to beat because there isn't one. If you value more predictable batching, better integration with a US bank account, or you're already using Stripe for other income, the rolling schedule is manageable, especially once you're past the first 7-day verification wait. Some creators run both and split which supporters use which method, though that adds its own bookkeeping complexity.
Payout Speed Doesn't Tell You What You Kept
Timing and fees are separate questions. Whether your Ko-fi payment arrives instantly or in 4 days, Ko-fi's fee structure is the same underneath: 0% on tips (once Contributor status is switched off; new accounts default into it), 5% on shop sales, memberships, and commissions, plus standard card/PayPal processing on top. Getting paid fast doesn't mean you kept more of it.
Comparing Ko-fi to Other Platforms' Timing
Ko-fi's "it depends on your processor" model is unusual. Most platforms fix one schedule for every seller. Gumroad lets you choose a frequency but pays out on its own balance, Patreon pays around the 5th of the month, and Stripe runs a standard rolling 2-day basis when used directly. If you're comparing timing across everywhere you sell, the free payout calendar shows all ten platforms side by side.
If Ko-fi is one of several places supporters pay you, Owelet connects to Ko-fi and 9 other platforms via read-only OAuth and shows real net income per platform automatically, whichever processor each one runs on. Free to start, two platforms, no card required.
